Suffolk & Norfolk Chapels

‘There my friends and kindred dwell’ The Strict Baptist Chapels of Suffolk and Norfolk by Tim Grass

Strict Baptist Chapels of Suffolk and NorfolkEast Anglia has been a heartland of the Strict Baptists (now often known as Grace Baptists). Since the foundation of the Suffolk and Norfolk Association in 1829, almost 100 such churches have existed in Suffolk or Norfolk at one point or another, and more than that number of branch chapels or mission stations. This book introduces their history, which is marked by vigorous outreach and deep local roots. An introduction outlines the strands of the denomination’s development in the two countries, pages are devoted to each church’s story (almost all are illustrated), and an appendix lists all known congregations and missions.

Tim Grass is the son of a Suffolk Strict Baptist pastor, and has himself preached in a number of the chapels. He is an associate tutor in church history at Spurgeon’s College, London, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
